Post Font issues
I'm having an issue where plotting with different heights does not render them in different heights. They all show up at the same height. I've encountered this on a few systems, and the underlying issue was that I was missing a font package that Yorick needed.

However, the system I'm currently seeing this on, I can't figure out what package is needed. I've tried to install a bunch of them (including xfonts-75dpi and xfonts-100dpi as referenced here), but it still doesn't work.

I'm running on Ubuntu 12.04.4 LTS. Does anybody know what packages I need?

For the record, I'm running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and haven't had this problem. Perhaps you are running the X font server? Font handling has changed dramatically twice in the last decade in X... The X11 font packages I have installed are:

x11-xfs-utils xfonts-100dpi xfonts-75dpi xfonts-base xfonts-encodings xfonts mathml xfonts-scalable xfonts-utils

Quote:
dave@dora:~$ xset -q
<...>
Font Path:
/usr/share/fonts/X11/misc,/usr/share/fonts/X11/100dpi/:unscaled,/usr/share/fonts/X11/75dpi/:unscaled,/usr/share/fonts/X11/Type1,/usr/share/fonts/X11/100dpi,/usr/share/fonts/X11/75dpi,built-ins
<...>

As far as I can tell, I don't have an X font server running:

Quote:
dave@dora:~$ xfsinfo -server :0
xfsinfo: unable to open server ":0"
